When I Tried to Take a Holy Dip… but Met Two Unexpected Lifeguards at Shri Kaleswara Temple! 🐍😅

Have you ever planned something so perfectly that the universe itself laughed and said — “Not today, my friend!”
Well, that’s exactly what happened to me a few days ago here in Kalgi, Karnataka, where I’m currently staying.
🛕 The Ancient Temples of Kalgi
Hidden like a treasure in the heart of nature, the Shri Kaleswara Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, while beside it lies the Narasimha Temple, devoted to Lord Vishnu.
What makes these temples truly unique is that they are partially underwater! Yes, you read that right — the sanctum and parts of the surroundings remain submerged in crystal-clear water throughout the year.
Locals say the water never dries up, no matter the season. And the clarity? Oh, it’s so pure that you can see the temple steps, fish swimming lazily, and sometimes, a few mysterious movements beneath the surface 👀.
💦 My “Holy Bath” Adventure Begins…
Now, being a water-friendly person (basically, if there’s water, I’ll jump in faster than Wi-Fi connects), I couldn’t resist the idea of taking a swim there. So one fine morning, I geared up — towel, camera, spare clothes, and of course, that overconfidence every adventurer has before something goes wrong.
The plan was simple:
- Reach the temple
- Take a holy bath
- Shoot a cool vlog clip for Prabina Vlogs
- Return as a refreshed, spiritually upgraded version of myself
But destiny had other ideas…
🐍 The Uninvited “Temple Guards”
As I reached the temple pond, the water sparkled like a mirror. It was calm, peaceful, and absolutely inviting. My inner voice said, “Jump, Prabina, jump!”
Just as I was about to step in — there they were.
Two long, slithering temple guardians, gracefully moving through the water like they owned the place! 🐍🐍
“Bhai, shayad Shiv ji ne aaj nahi bulaya.” 😅
And that was it.
Bath plan: Cancelled.
Swim plan: Postponed until next life.
Faith level: 100
Fear level: Unlimited.
😂 The Aftermath
We stood there for a few minutes, watching the snakes glide peacefully, as if laughing at us. One villager passing by casually said:
“Arey beta, woh toh mandir ke saap hain… har din dikhte hain!”
Apparently, the locals believe these snakes are divine protectors of the temple — not to be harmed or feared. Well, divine or not, I wasn’t going to argue with them. If Lord Shiva himself has assigned them as security guards, who am I to intrude?
📸 What I Learned (and Captured!)
Even though the “swimming session” didn’t happen, the experience was absolutely worth it. The Shri Kaleswara Temple and Narasimha Temple are living proof of ancient Indian craftsmanship and spiritual beauty.
The carvings, calm surroundings, and shimmering underwater architecture — it all feels like stepping into another world.

🎥 Final Thoughts
As I packed my things, still half laughing and half terrified, I realized something — sometimes, adventures aren’t about what you do, but what you almost do.
So, I didn’t take the dip that day… but I did get a story worth sharing — one where Lord Shiva’s temple gave me an unforgettable “No Entry” sign, courtesy of two divine reptiles. 🐍🙏
