Back to 2024 – When a Random Plan Became a Beautiful Journey

Some days start with no plans… and end with memories you’ll never forget.

It was a normal day in 2024. I was at home in Kaniary because the house renovation work had suddenly stopped (as usual, contractors said “kal karenge” 😅). I was simply sitting and doing nothing, when my friend Santosh suddenly called and said:

“Bhai, let’s go somewhere… let’s explore.”

I didn’t even think twice.
“Okay, I’m coming!” I said.

Within minutes, I got ready, took my Pulsar NS 125, and rode straight to Santosh’s house. When I reached, I saw two more friends waiting — Raju and Madhu.

I looked at them and said,
“Wow, full team already set! Now tell me… where are we going?”

They just laughed.
“We also don’t know. Let’s decide on the road!”

And that’s exactly how this trip began — no plan, no destination… just vibes.

The Road Decided Our Destination

As we started riding through the smooth Ganjam roads, the wind was cool, the sky was clear, and our minds were blank. Suddenly, someone from the back shouted:

“Let’s go to Tara Tarini Temple!”

Everyone agreed instantly.
No debate, no confusion — just pure excitement.

And believe me… this was one of the best decisions of 2024.

First Sight of the Temple – That Divine Feeling!

As we reached the base of Kumari Hills, the view stunned us.
The temple stood on top of twin hill peaks, shining in the sunlight with an energy that you can literally feel in your chest.

Even after visiting many temples, Tara Tarini always feels special.
Maybe because she is one of the oldest Shakti Peethas.
Maybe because she sits on a hilltop with the Rushikulya river flowing below.
Or maybe because when life feels confusing, Tara Tarini gives peace.

We parked our bikes and started climbing.
Santosh was already tired after 10 steps (gym membership canceled 😂).
Madhu was busy taking photos.
Raju kept saying:
“Bro, after this we are eating something BIG.”

And I… I was just silent, enjoying the breeze & that spiritual pull.

About Tara Tarini Temple (Informative Section)

To anyone planning a trip — here’s everything you should know.

One of India’s Ancient Shakti Peethas

Tara Tarini Temple is one of the four major Shakti Peethas, believed to be the place where Sati’s breasts fell during Shiva’s cosmic tandava.

The other Shakti Peethas are:

  • Kamakhya Temple (Assam)
  • Bimala Temple (Puri, Odisha)
  • Jwala Devi Temple (Himachal Pradesh)

This makes Tara Tarini one of the most powerful Mother Goddess sites in India.

Location

The temple is situated on Kumari Hills, near Purushottampur, in Ganjam district, Odisha.
Below flows the sacred Rushikulya River, adding even more beauty to the place.

History in Short

The temple’s history goes back to prehistoric times, when tribal communities worshipped Mother Goddess here. Later:

  • Rishi Bhrigu and Bharadwaja are said to have invoked the goddess.
  • Mentioned in Mahabharata, Kalika Purana, Brahmanda Purana, and Devi Bhagavata.
  • Supported and renovated by rulers like Ashoka, Kharavela, Ganga dynasty, Suryavamsis, Bhanja kings, and even the British.

The goddess has always been worshipped as Tara (Protection) and Tarini (Deliverance) — two forms of the same divine Mother.

Temple Architecture

The architecture follows the Kalinga style:

  • Curved pyramid-like roof
  • Beautiful stone carvings
  • Main sanctum (Garbha Griha)
  • Jagamohan (Mandap)
  • Four smaller temples for Shiva, Ganesh, Surya, Vishnu
  • A holy pond, Yagna Mandap, Bhojanalaya, and other structures

Inside the sanctum are two stone idols of Tara & Tarini, covered in silk, flowers, and gold.

The divine calmness inside is something you must experience at least once.

Climbing the Hill – Our Mini Adventure

We decided not to take the cable car —
“Real men climb!” Raju said confidently.

10 minutes later…

“Bro, cable car would have been better.”
This time his voice was weak 😆

We took breaks, clicked pictures, laughed, and slowly reached the top. The view from the hilltop was heavenly:

  • River shining below
  • Wind flowing softly
  • Green hills everywhere
  • Birds flying above
  • Temple bells ringing

Sometimes, you don’t need words.
Some moments speak directly to your soul.

Inside the Temple – Peace That Cannot Be Explained

As we entered the main temple, all four of us went silent.
The two deities — Tara and Tarini — looked radiant, powerful, and compassionate.

I closed my eyes and prayed:

“Give strength… give peace… guide my path.”

And honestly… I felt lighter.

That’s the magic of this place.

Return Journey – With Hearts Full & Stomachs Empty

After darshan, we took blessings, clicked some photos, and started heading down.
Raju immediately said:

“Now we need food… urgently!”

So, we stopped at a dhaba near the base.
Hot rice, dal, chicken curry, and cold water…
Heaven after a climb!

Then we headed back home, tired legs… but happy hearts.

That day started without a plan…
But ended with blessings, memories, and a beautiful ride.

Sometimes, spontaneous trips become the best chapters of your life.
